Alexandra Mowat

Registered Art Therapist/Clinical Counsellor

I am a Registered Art Therapist with The Australian, New Zealand and Asian Creative Arts Therapies Association (ANZACATA) and completed my Masters of Art Therapy at Western Sydney University in 2019. I have also received my clinical counsellor registration with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA).

I have been working with neurodivergent individuals for over four years and I am passionate about providing a safe, creative and non-directive space for a person to explore their conscious and unconscious feelings.  Since becoming a mother myself, I have undergone perinatal arts therapy training and have further explored my interest in attachment theory.  In 2023 I completed the arts based supervision training and currently taking on supervisees to assist in the completion of my ANZACATA supervisor certification.

My experience with neurodiversity, eating disorders and complex trauma has allowed me to further my interest and understanding in these areas. I use a range of art-making processes including painting, clay modelling and sand play therapy in my sessions. I am always experimenting with different artworks which allows me to remain empathetic with my clients.

Outside of my role, I try to exercise as much self-care as possible by immersing myself in activities such as a new video game, getting out for walks and spending time with my daughter. My current art-making interests are in ceramics and I aspire one day to bring a pottery wheel into my sessions. My other interests are trialling new recipes in my kitchen, keeping my houseplants alive and taking my French Bulldog Odette to the beach.
