Brief Assessments
Brief Psychological Assessment (Ages 2+)
At times, a formal and lengthy assessment is not the most appropriate way forward. A Brief Psychological Assessment offers a flexible assessment approach that provides an outline of current strengths and difficulties and assists in the formulation of an ongoing plan. During the pre-assessment consultation, the clinician will suggest this option if they feel it will adequately address your goals and motivation for assessment.
What does a Brief Assessment involve?
A Brief Assessment typically involves observations with the client, collection of supportive information from multiple sources if required (e.g. school/day-care/workplace), and a parent or informant interview. The structure of the Brief Assessment is flexible and will be tailored to your goals following a pre-assessment.
The Assessment Process
What is a pre-assessment consultation?
This is a 50-80 minute initial consultation which is required prior to all assessments at The Kidd Clinic. This allows the clinician to gather information about the client’s developmental history, discuss the assessment process, and answer any questions that arise.
This appointment allows our assessors to determine the most appropriate (if any) assessment/s and advise you on which assessment pathway to proceed with according to the client’s presentation and needs.
Rebates and referrals?
You do not require a referral to be assessed at The Kidd Clinic, but if you have a referral please send it to assessments@kiddclinic.com.au when you enquire.
Brief Assessments cannot be claimed with Medicare. For NDIS participants, contact your plan manager or local area coordinator (LAC) to determine if your plan will provide cover. Please note that only self or plan-managed NDIS funding is eligible for use at The Kidd Clinic.
Your assessment may be claimed on private health depending on your coverage. Please consult your health insurance provider regarding item number 100 for individual assessment.
