Specific Learning Disorder & Cognitive Assessments
Child Psychoeducational Assessment (Ages 6-17)
Cognitive/IQ | Dyslexia/dysgraphia/dyscalculia | ADHD | Intellectual disability/giftedness
A psychoeducational assessment includes a full cognitive (IQ) assessment and a series of additional tests to identify functional strengths and weaknesses in domains such as reading, writing, mathematics, and social, emotional, and behavioural functioning. Cognitive, ADHD and academic assessments can be completed separately if required, and the scope of the assessment can be discussed at the pre-assessment consultation.
Why might my child need one?
This assessment may be requested by an educator or health professional and can assist in identifying or diagnosing:
● Specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia or dysgraphia (reading, spelling, and writing difficulties)
● Attention and memory difficulties (i.e., ADHD)
● Intellectual disability
● Intellectual giftedness
The Assessment Process
What is a pre-assessment consultation?
This is a 50-80 minute initial consultation which is required prior to all assessments at The Kidd Clinic. This allows the clinician to gather information about the client’s developmental history, discuss the assessment process, and answer any questions that arise.
This appointment allows our assessors to determine the most appropriate (if any) assessment/s and advise you on which assessment pathway to proceed with according to the client’s presentation and needs.
Rebates and referrals?
You do not require a referral to be assessed at The Kidd Clinic, but if you have a referral please send it to assessments@kiddclinic.com.au when you enquire.
Psychoeducational assessments cannot be claimed with Medicare. For NDIS participants, contact your plan manager or local area coordinator (LAC) to determine if your plan will provide cover. Please note that only self or plan-managed NDIS funding is eligible for use at The Kidd Clinic.
Your assessment may be claimed on private health depending on your coverage. Please consult your health insurance provider regarding item number 100 for individual assessment.
